Rosa and Blanca

The Eagle with his back to the camera

Rosa and Blanca
Written by Rebekka Kricheldorf
Translated and Directed by Neil Blackadder
Costume Design: Magdalena Tortoriello

As the textile artist for Rosa and Blanca, I used a multiple-step dye process to create the Eagle’s “wings”.  I “broomsticked” and dyed strips of lightweight silk in warm baths of RIT dye in red, yellow, or blue. After the color had set, I re- “broomsticked” the strips and dyed them in a brown bath to mute the color and create more depth within the textile design.  From there the strips were serged together, and the scraps from the serger were added to the vest for additional texture.
